Organisational Change Management Certification – Foundation & Practitioner

Dealing with change and, more importantly, the impact of change is a high priority for all organisations.

This Foundation/Practitioner course on Organisational Change Management is based on the Change Management Body of Knowledge as defined by the Change Management Institute (CMI), an independent, global professional association of change managers. This body of knowledge provides an independent benchmark for the professional knowledge expected of an effective change manager.

The course comprehensively covers both the theory and the practice of change management including:

  • Organisational Context and Approach
  • People and Change
  • Change Leadership and Teams
  • Stakeholders and Communication
  • The work of the Change Manager

Accredited by APMG, the course is structured in two modules: a stand-alone Foundation Level (3 days) and a follow-on Practitioner Level (2 days). These can be taken individually or combined. Choose the option that best meets your needs.  If you are interested in going to Practitioner level we recommend taking both modules in the one sitting if possible.

Foundation Level Certification

The purpose of the Foundation certification is to measure whether you have sufficient knowledge and understanding of the The Change Management Study Guide to act as an informed member of a change management team during a period of change within part or all of your organisation. The Foundation certification is also a pre-requisite for the Practitioner certification.

Exam Format – Foundation

  • Multiple choice
  • 40 minutes
  • 50 questions
  • 50% to pass (25 or more correct)
  • Closed book

Practitioner Level Certification

The purpose of the Practitioner certification is to confirm whether you have achieved sufficient understanding of how to apply and tailor Change Management guidance in a given organisational change situation. A successful Practitioner should, with suitable direction be able to start applying the Change Management approaches and techniques to a real change initiative but may not be sufficiently skilled to do this appropriately for all situations. Your individual Change Management expertise, complexity of the change initiative and the support provided for the use of Change Management approaches in your work environment will all be factors that impact what the Practitioner can achieve.

Exam Format – Practitioner

  • Objective testing
  • 2.5 hours
  • 5 questions worth a total of 80 points
  • 50% to pass (40 or more points)
  • Exam may be taken with the support of The Change Management Study Guide

FAQs

Change Management –  APMG/CMI vs PROSCI

One of the most frequent questions we get concerns the differences between PROCSI and APMG/CMI certifications.

ALC’s Change Management training comes from APMG and CMI (the Change Management Institute) which are both based in UK. PROSCI is US-based. The two approaches are not really competitors. Rather, they are complementary. They approach the same subject but from a different perspective. In an ideal world people would do both. A similar situation exists with Business Analysis between IIBA in USA and BCS in UK.

ALC recommends the APMG/CMI approach as a more suitable and effective starting point from an organisational perspective, particularly if you have a group of people to be trained.

For a comprehensive assessment of the two approaches we recommend this paper: Change management certification courses from APMG and Prosci®. Which one is right for you?
